The Final Truth?
by Mistah MOJO in"the final truth is that there is no final truth.
" this statement was contained in a recent email from a close friend who is an existentialist, and by extension a nihilist.
how many here would agree with this?

Jehovah's Witnesses are not a CULT ...
by Fatfreek inaccording to 30% of the following definitions.
that leaves 70% that show quite the opposite.
so -- are they a cult?

I have two--yes two--dictionaries and each one defines "cult" as a synonym for religion. Religion is cult, cult is religion. However, I suspect both of these dictionaries are out of date. The word "cult" began to transmogrify sometime in the latter half of the twentieth century, as far as I can tell. The word was picked up, emptied of its historical denotation, and given a new denotation by zealous evangelicals and fundamentalists who were determined to extend their "us versus them" mentality into the cult-ure at large. So, "cult" has now become a word for "bad religion." As if there is a religion whose effects have not been primarily deleterious. MM

Why WHITBY is so important to us all!
by Gill inthe phrase is 'the truth is out there' and when we stumble across it by accident, it can't help but make a person wonder what else they never knew, and how pieces of the jigsaw gradually begin to fit together as we search for the 'truths of history'.. i love whitby.
whitby is a small town in the north yorkshire moors.
it sits on the coast with the magnificent ruins of whitby abbey dominating the sky line.

What a marvelous bit of history to tuck away! I love it. Thank you. I am under the impression that Celtic Christianity was Arian. Am I correct? MM

"The Final Truth is that there is no Final Truth." This statement was contained in a recent email from a close friend who is an existentialist, and by extension a nihilist. How many here would agree with this? Am I ridiculous perhaps in holding forth the hope that some sort of Final Truth exists? Something other than the entertaining paradix above, that is. The more I study religion the more I am confronted with an obvious specie of mental illness, one to which I succumbed for two years. Yet, in retrospect, my involvement was very unemotional, very analytical. There was very little of "me" invested in the religion.
Science is a better place to look for facts than religion. Understatement. Yet, does Truth have to be factual? Even science deals with symbols. I know there are many highly intelligent and educated people who post here. I would very much enjoy what you have to say. Please feel free to direct me to a link of an archived post you deem relevant. Thank you. MM -

LIBER JESAIAE CAPUT .XLII
by Ade inisaiah 42:18 - 25
come "scholars and friends" allow us to discuss whilst time allows it who herein is mentioned.
is it we "apostates" or the "spirit guided society of god on earth today" or is this the "literal" in the midst of the "prophetic" so it becomes void in interpretation of the "society".

Hello Parakeet! I laughed out loud, a really satisfying belly-laugh, when I read your response. I agree with you completely! Your droll commentary coupled with the cute little birdie icon are a mixture I couldnt withstand. Thank you for a damn good laugh.

Do I understand correctly that this information is the current "light" shining forth from the Tower Of Light? If so, then they are indeed anchoring themselves very firmly to the 1914 date, yes? I love it. It would be mnarvelous to see the WTS finally commit suicide, figuratively speaking. Just blow their collective brains out in one big idiotic fit of lunacy and mule-headedness.

How very odd. An educated man, with a degree in theology, who became a Jehovah's Witness! Then became an Overseer, and then left "the Truth" back when 1975 was being touted as the date for The End. (Am I right on this? I read so many conflicting accounts from ex-Witnesses). Then he embraced the ultimate bizarro-world religion, Islam. How incomprehensible! I have actually tried to read the Koran/Quaran many times and after a few paragraphs I literally feel ill. It's almost uncanny. If I believed in evil spiritis I would think the Koran is full of evil spiritis just waiting to leap from the pages of the Koran. On a more sane note, I think the Koran is a distillation of all the negativity in the Bible. Anyway, thanks for the link! This was a very odd experience. Enjoyable in a very strange almost "train wreck" sort of way.
